What is

Understanding petloss is an online course designed to improve end-of-life care within the veterinary industry. Understanding the human-animal bond is central to delivering a euthanasia process that honours the relationship between owner and pet.

We also look at ways a practice can support staff mental health and steps an individual can take to build mental resilience to protect themselves from compassion fatigue and other mental health conditions.

What is the structure of the course?

The course is made up of 6 half-hour modules.

  2. Complicated grief
  3. Communication skills
  4. Introducing bond-centred euthanasia
  5. Other euthanasia scenarios
  6. Understanding compassion fatigue

How many hours of CPD does the training programme provide?

The course is structured as six 30-minute lessons and provides a total of 3-hours of accredited CPD.

How much does the course cost?

Can I keep accessing the modules after I have completed the training?

For 12 months from your commencement date you have unlimited access to the training materials. However, the assessments can only be completed the first time you finish the training and CPD certificates can only be issued in the name of the account holder.

Can I share my login details?

No. Any additional access needs to be purchased.

Can I study specific modules of the course?

Whilst some modules are targeted at specific job roles within the practice, we believe that anyone working within a veterinary practice will benefit from completing the full course.

Does the course provide bereavement counselling training?

No – this is not a bereavement counselling course. On completion of this course, you will understand the bond-centred euthanasia process, compassionate communication and self-care techniques to protect your mental health.
